As a financial co-operative, Servus has strong community investment roots. Credit unions were created by people banding together to pool their resources for the benefit of all at a time when others were not there to help. This is part of our corporate history and our DNA, and it forms the basis of our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We are excited to build on this strong foundation by bringing a wider CSR lens to our daily decisions.
What does that mean?
It means considering the economy, society and the environment in our decisions and finding innovative solutions to current and future challenges. As a member-owned business, we want to meet your expectations of ethical business practices. It’s all about being a sustainable, long-term, inter-generational company. To be financially successful, we need to address any social or environmental risks that could erode the value of our company and the well-being of our communities. By reducing our environmental impacts and enhancing the social fabric of our communities, we are investing not only in the economy but also in the overall health and well-being of our communities.
As a province-wide credit union, we have a chance to put the knowledge and passion of our nearly 400,000 members and 2,300 employees into action to address emerging social, economic and environmental issues. This will be challenging, and we know we have a long journey ahead. Our CSR Policy and Strategy will guide us in that journey and provide ample opportunity to demonstrate not only financial but also social and environmental responsibility. We invite you to join us on this path. It will take time, and we may take some wrong turns along the way, but together we will learn and move toward a sustainable future.
In September 2012, our Board of Directors approved a CSR commitment and strategy with long-term goals across five areas.
