Common misperceptions about travel insurance.

We’re sharing our three most frequently-asked about misperceptions about travel insurance coverage that our members ask us about.

Myth #1: My credit card’s insurance is good for what I need when I’m away

It’s easy to focus on the fun parts or your winter getaway like warm weather and making memories with your family. But you might not think about how you and your family are covered for medical emergencies while away from home.

Even if you used your credit card to book your trip, many credit card issuers’ travel accident benefits have lower coverage limits. Their coverage may not cover your spouse or dependent and may not be active for the entire length of your trip.

Myth #2: My employer travel insurance is good for everything travel-related

Many employer plans don’t offer trip cancellation and interruption insurance, and who knows what can happen if your bags are lost.

Emergency travel insurance available through Servus can cover all of these things meaning you get more time to enjoy your holiday.

Myth #3: My Alberta health care plan covers me

Typically, Alberta health coverage does not cover the cost of having a family flown to your bedside if you are hospitalized. Alberta Health covers only limited physician and hospital costs outside of Canada and strongly recommends Albertans obtain private supplementary insurance when outside the province or outside Canada, as costs for services can be much higher than in Alberta.

Emergency travel insurance available through Servus can cover all of these things meaning you get more time to enjoy your holiday.

You've planned your vacation to get away from it all.

Travel insurance can help you leave your worries behind with affordable, peace-of-mind coverage. It’s important to understand the coverage you may have through work or your credit card and its limitations. Travel insurance is a smart addition to supplement the travel coverage you have. You’ll get 24 hour emergency assistance if you need it.
