In September 2011, Servus partnered with Junior Achievement Northern Alberta & NWT and Junior Achievement Southern Alberta in an effort to bring financial literacy education to students across Alberta! Our sponsorship of the Dollars with Sense program from 2011 to 2014 will help Junior Achievement increase the number of classes presented throughout the province, with a particular focus on developing the program in rural areas.
Dollars with Sense is a half-day, interactive program designed to help grade 8 students develop the financial literacy skills they need to make informed decisions about their financial futures. Students learn about budgeting, money management and investments. By 2014 nearly 20,000 grade 8 students in Alberta will have taken Dollars with Sense and be on the path to developing good money management skills.
In true Servus fashion, our support doesn’t end with just a monetary donation. Each Dollars with Sense class is taught by a volunteer from the local business community. The volunteers are encouraged to add their own knowledge and experience to the class thereby creating a ‘real world’ experience for the students. Servus employees have taught many Dollars with Sense classes over the years and we’re ready to share our experience on an even larger scale in the years to come!
