Many helping hands

Stacy Schmidt
Branch Manager
Stony Plain Branch

When Stacy Schmidt, Branch Manager in Stony Plain, first arrived at the branch he was immediately struck by the culture of volunteering and fundraising...by every single employee in the branch.

For five years the Stony Plain Branch has been the top fundraiser for Servus’ United Way campaign. And while branch employees certainly enjoyed having breakfast cooked and served by the Servus executive leadership team, it’s the intrinsic rewards that keep everyone going.

“Most of us who work here also live here,” notes Stacy. “We all feel very fortunate and we’re motivated to help our neighbours when they need a small boost to get over the hurdles they’re facing.”

The branch employees lend helping hands all year long. Jordan Petersen, a member service advisor at the branch, drives a lot of the activities with the support of a committee. From giving aid to the youth emergency shelter to packing and delivering Christmas hampers, branch staff and members participate wholeheartedly.

A staff and member favourite is the annual yard sale. The event is not only festive but an excellent fundraiser. The local Co-op donates a barbeque to use, and members of the community can rent space to sell their goods.

“It really speaks to the relationships we’ve built with our members and the community,” explains Jordan. “They love the event and start asking about it months before the date.”

The consensus...Servus is more than a bank and our members appreciate it.
